    The Metis people were some of the first people in Canada. They lived in Manitoba when the Confederation came but they were tricked into living somewhere else because most of them didn't know how to read or write.

    Manitoba means: "Water of the prairie" and since the land that they owned had lots of water it only made sense. When Manitoba started it was a very small piece of land but over time we see that it has obviously grown into a bigger province.
