    March 20, 1869: The Canadian Government had bought ruperts land and it was a good thing because they could expand. They needed to expand because one of the main reasons confederation happened was that they could own more territory to defend from america because America still believed in Manifest Destiny. When Canada bought Ruperts Land, The Metis were troubled and that started a series of events called the Red River Rebellion.

    Introduction of The Metis Bill of Rights +35%
    December 1st 1869: The Metis Bill of rights says the demands of the Metis and it basically said that they wanted to govern their own people and basically make it their own laws/bylaws. It also said that they wanted to make ruperts land a province. On top of that they wanted to have 4 people sent to Ottawa and be part of the Government. This would mean that they would have more opinions to deal with and they would have to send over some resources.

    March 3 1870: Thomas scott was furious that he had been captured so in his outrage he declared the Metis cowards and said that they would not dare to shoot him. After stating that , he was shot dead by a firing line. This was a negative event for the Canadian Government because Thomas scott had been one of their supporters but he had also been trying to attack Fort Garry so It was not as negative.

    The Manitoba Act marked the area of the red river settlement as a province which is now called Manitoba. It was made because the Metis had voiced their opinions out of losing their rights. This act basically says that the Canadian Government will protect the Metis lands but all of the other land will be the Canadian Government's land. That would be a positive event for the Canadian Government because then they could have more land but in return they would have to protect the Metis’s land from an

    November 2: Riel had sent 120 armed men to take over Fort Garry. William MacTavish, The governor of ruperts land, just watched as his fort was getting taken over. This was negative for The Canadian Government because, this was their fort and the Metis had just taken it over. That meant the loss of resources, territory and now they had more enemies. The Metis and America.

    December 10th, Louis Riel created a provisional Government. He declared that he was the governor of Ruperts land. That was a negative event for the Canadian Government because it was supposed to be their men governing Ruperts Land but since Riel had control 0f Fort Garry he has all of the resources and all of the weapons stored at the Fort. That also meant that The Canadian Government wouldn’t have to send over to many resources to ruperts land and that would benefit them as well.
