Triple Alliance - Supranationalism
This secret agreement between Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy formed in May 1882. This was prior to World War I. The purpose of this alliance was for political/ military reasons, and was to protect the allied countries against France. Also, if a war started between Austria-Hungary and Russia, Italy was made to stay neutral. -
Germany after WWII - Devolution (political/ military)
After WWII over the years Germany began to seperate into sections. There was East and West and different smaller ones. They did this to seperate cultures and prevent any other attempts at another world war. They also wanted to make sure Germany stayed stable and kept all of its resources. -
US and Great Britain - Devolution (economic)
This economic devolution occured because Great Britain did not have the finantial aid to keep on defending the US so they let them gain their independence. They became allies and trading partners. -
NATO - Supranationalism
NATO was a political/ military form of supranationalism. It is used to help protect USA and Europe. The allied countries are Belgium, Denmark, Canada, France, Portugal, The Netherland, Luxembourg, Italy, Norway, The United Kingdom and The United States. They all form together to make desisions about issues. -
Hawaii - Devolution (cultural)
Hawaii is now part of the US, but it wasn't always that way. It used to be its own country, and now it wanted to seperate again but they don't have the neccesary resources or right ammount of people to be on their own. But although they can't break away, the US has given them autonomy so they can be like the Native Americans and have their own cultural differences while still being a US territory. -
OPEC - Supranationalism
OPEC formed in 1960 and its main purpose was to control the oil exports to major countries. The contributing countries were Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, and Venezuela. This orginazation was created for economic reasons to control the oil prices and regulate them. It is benificial to the oil producing countries because if they were functioning independently, oil prices would go down due to the battle of who is going to sell to who at the lowest price. -
PLO - Supranationalism
PLO stands for Palestinian Liberation Orginazation. The people of PLO, along with other orginazations in the Middle East's purpose is to become their own country and gain independence. This is a cultural type of supanationalism. -
NAFTA - Supranationalism
This economic form of supranationalism was made to create free trade and gradually eliminate tariffs and taxes between allied countries such as Canada, United States and Mexico. -
Czechoslovakia - Devolution (Economic)
Czech Republic and Slovakia used to be all one country. But when north and south began being influenced by seperate regions of Europe, one was more industrialized than the other. This forced them to seperate so they would not interfere with eachothers economies. -
Quebec and Canada - Devolution (cultural)
Quebec and Canada are still currently one country, but Quebec wants to be independent from Canada. They want this because in the 1600's the French and the English colonized in the area. Quebec was mainly influenced by the French and continues to have a main French language and a unique culture. They believe that because they are so different, they should not be considered the same country.
