    First Birthday
Kimberly turns 1 year old with a birthday party surrounded by her loving parents and extended family, she trusts the world and knows it is a good place. This is Erikson's first stage, trust vs. mistrust, where babies learn to trust that the world around them is good and kind and to trust the people in their lives. An infant obtains this trust by being loved and well cared for.
  • Poetry Prize

    Poetry Prize
Kimberly's poem about fall is selected to be read aloud at the October school board meeting. Her teacher has constantly praised her skills as a writer. Kimberly is elated and wants to write more poetry. This is Erikson's fourth stage, industry vs. inferiority, where children learn what knowledge and skills are required in their culture. Encouragement and success lead to enthusiasm for learning and a greater sense of confidence while unsuccessful learning leads to a feeling of inferiority.
  • Wedding Day

    Wedding Day
Kimberly marries Jake, a celebration of their commitment to spend the rest of their lives together. This is Erikson's sixth stage, intimacy vs. isolation, where success comes from creating intimacy and a relationship with another person. Avoiding intimacy and relationships can lead to isolation, loneliness, and depression
  • Working for a Cause

    Working for a Cause
After working in corporate law for six years, Kimberly accepts a position working for the National Women's Law Center. She wants to work for a cause she believes in while setting a positive example for her young daughter. This is Erikson's 7th stage, generativity vs. stagnation. Adults begin to give back to their societies by raising children and doing work they find productive and worthwhile. Lack of this leads to stagnation and unfulfillment.
