They return home to find that Mama had thrown herself into the river because she thought that Paw was Noah returning in a casket. Noah and Delphine fall in love and Dr. Hutchings and Tilly fall in love.

Dr. hutchings Jr. returns to the small town of Grand Tower to visit his "Aunt" Delphine because she is ill. Once they leave Dr. Hutchings Jr. tells his son Howard that he is acually Delphine and Noah's son, making him black.
