Frank Conrad invented the first radio station. It was originally called 8XK, and then later changed to KDKA. It's still around and streaming in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.

WEAF aired a 10 minute commercial in 1922. The cost for the commercial to be aired was $50 from the advertisers. It was the dawn of advertising.

Advertisers were losing money because there were to many Uncle Charlie's, and their advertisements were not being heard. In order to regulate all that, FRC was created. It organized the licensing of transmitters and assigned radio station frequencies and call letters.

Around the 30s-40s, the Great Depression was going on. That's when people would always tune into the radio as an escape because that's what music is, something to fill in the void. It was also a great family medium.
