The 30s and 40s was the time of the Great Depression. At this time, radio provided distraction from the real world problems.

TV appeared in the late 30s. Advertisers went to TV to try and make more money. This caused radio to lose money, and radio shows eventually ended.

Major Edwin Armstrong invented the FM transmitter, which made a stronger signal and higher quality sound. The government made listeners buy new radio sets
