    Nearly 6 million African Americans left the south so they could take advantage for the need of industrial workers in the north. This need started during World War 1.

  • Selective Service act

    This act gave the federal government the power to raise a national army through the enlistment of people for World war 1
  • Espionage act

    This act was intended to prohibit interference with Military operations or recruitment, to prevent disobedience in the military, and to prevent the support of U.S enemies during wartime.
  • Lenin led a Russian revolution

    Leftist revolutionaries led by Bolshevik Party leader Vladimir Lenin launched a nearly bloodless coup d'état against the provisional government.
  • Influenza Epidemic

    What started out to seem like a common cold turned into the most deadly epidemic killing somewhere between 20 and 40 million people. It has been cited as the most devastating epidemic in recorded world history. A fifth of the world's population was infected. The flu was most deadly for people ages 20 to 40.
  • US Rejects League of Nations Membership

    Senate is in charge of approving treaties and they didn't like the treaty of versailles so they rejected signing it, which in turn rejected the League of Nations.

    This act made it a crime for any person to share information intended to interfere with the U.S. armed forces prosecution of the war effort or to promote the success of the country’s enemies.

    U.S supreme court ruled that the freedom of speech protection, First amendment, could be restricted if the words spoken or printed represented to a society a "clear and present danger."
  • Woodrow Wilson Suffers a Stroke

    Under heavy strain while on a speaking tour promoting the League of Nations, President Wilson suffered a stroke, leaving him very incapacitated for the final 18 months of his term.
  • U.S Senate Rejects Treaty of Versailles

    The Senate rejected the Treaty of Versailles based primarily on objections to the League of Nations. The U.S. would never ratify the treaty or join the League of Nations.
