    The soon to be Queen Elizabeth I was born on September 7th, 1533 to the parents of King Henry VII and Anne Boleyn. King Henry had hoped to birth a son and an able heir to his throne. He hoped to accomplish this with his second wife, Anne Boleyn, however Elizabeth I was born instead.

    Death of Anne Boleyn
    King Henry VII eventually had Elizabeth's mother beheaded on May 19th, 1536 on false charges of incest and adultery. He did this solely becaus poor Anne could not produce a son for him, and he was growing older every day.

    On October 12th, 1537, Elizabeth's half-brother, Prince Edward was born; however, he died shortly after his birth. Prince Edward would have been the one to gain the crown over Elizabeth, but this never did happen due to Edward VI's death as a teenager.

    On July 12th, 1543, King Henry VIII married his sixth and last wife, Katherine Parr. This is important concerning the rise of Elizabeth because it was Katherine Parr who brought both Elizabeth and her half-sister Mary back into the Court. This made Elizabeth the third in line to be Queen after Edward VI and Mary.

    On March 18th, 1554, Princess Elizabeth was imprisoned in the Tower of London on charges of co-conspiring the Wyatt Rebelion in the attempt to bring down Queen Mary of Scotts.

    Elizabeth finally becomes Queen on November 17th, 1558, after Queen Mary I and Edward VI had passed away. Elizabeth's faith resided in the bible and it is said that she recited Psalm 118, line 23 in Latin: "Domino factum est istud et est mirabile in oculis nostris."

    Queen Elizabeth considered many courtships and proposals for marriage during her reign. The closest she ever came to marriage was with Francis, Duke of Anjou. She signed the marriage treaty in a planned alliance against Spanish control of the Southern Netherlands.

    Mary Queen of Scotts death
    After Mary Queen of Scotts failed to regain her throne in Scotland, she fled to England in an attempt to seek help from her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I. However, in years past, Mary had attempted to steal the throne from Elizabeth, and so Queen Elizabeth had her jailed. 18 years later, Mary attempted to devise an assassination attempt on Queen Elizabeth called the Barbington Plot; however, her lettters were intercepted and she was put to death.
  • Spanish Armada

    Spanish Armada
    On August 8th, 1588, the Spanish Naval Armada under the command of the Duke of Medina Sidonia invaded England in an attempt to overthrow Queen Elizabeth I. They were trying to end her involvement in the Spanish Netherlands. Queen Elizabeth commanding England's Naval forces decisively defeated the Spanish marking England's Navy as a supreme power to be feared.

    Queen Elizabeth passed away at Richmond Palace on March 23rd, 1603. On her deathbed, she was conflicted about who to choose as her heir, but she finally decided on James VI, son of Mary Queen of Scotts. The time of Queen Elizabeth's reign became known as the "Elizabethan Era" or the "Golden Era."
