Sometime after the first World War, the Beauvoir family lost much of there money and were forced to adjust their life and futures. With no money with which to use as a dowry, Simone had to focus on the possibility of her not marrying and having to dictate the direction of her own life. This led her to focus even more on intellectual pursuits and bettering herself. -
Simone was devoutly religious as a child, even planning and training to be a nun. Sometime at age 14 she had a crisis of faith and settled her mind on there being no god. This turn of events led Simone to focus her life on the pursuit of studying and teaching philosophy. -
In 1928 Simone de Beauvoir graduates from the University of Paris (the Sorbonne), studying philosophy and writing thesis on noted mathematician and philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Her time at different universities, earning multiple degrees served to shift her views from the individual struggle to societal ones. -
In 1943 Simone de Beauvoir was fired from her teaching position after having complaint filed on her for the corruption of a student. Being forced to leave the field of academia for a second time, Simone would not return and would instead focus he efforts on her writing. Such writings as The Second Sex and The Ethics of Ambiguity would become pillars of feminism, existentialism, and equality movements of all kinds.
