    Protests in Syria

  • EU Spares President Bashar al-Assad

    EU Spares President Bashar al-Assad
Europe did not allow traveling of any sort, and they also froze the assets (valuable items owned) of 13 Syrian officials. Europe held them responsible for violently taking over the country by force. I chose this article to show how the government is violent, as well as how they suppressed their own citizens.
  • Syria's Assad hit by EU sanctions

Syria's Assad hit by EU sanctions
The European Union raised sanctions on President Bashar al-Assad in an attempt to pressure the government to end violence. So far, Syrian forces have killed over 700 citizens in an attempt to take over the country. They have also killed many protestors as well. I chose this article to show that the government isn't legitimate because they are harming their own citizens, even though the citizens are protesting peacefully.
  • Syrian activists reject al-Qaida leader's support for uprising

Syrian activists reject al-Qaida leader's support for uprising
Ayman al-Zawahiri attempted to overthrow Bashar al-Assad, but Syrians wouldn't listen to a word he had to say only because al-Qaeda was trying to get back into "the spotlight." Zawahiri called Assad “the leader of the criminal gang” and “biggest of those who spread corruption.” I chose this article to show how other people are trying to get involved because they see Assad as "unworthy," even if it is al-Qaeda.
  • Saudi king recalls ambassador and demands end to Syria bloodshed

Saudi king recalls ambassador and demands end to Syria bloodshed
King Abdullah demanded an end to the killings in Syria. He argues that none of the events that took place in Syria had anything to do with religion, values, or ethics. Abdullah believes that Syria should start making changes to it's country before it's too late. I chose this article to show how multiple governments are trying to get involved especially how they are criticizing Syria.
  • Syria: Assad must resign, says Obama

Syria: Assad must resign, says Obama
Obama called on Bashar al-Assad to resign. Hilary Clinton states, on behalf of President Obama, it is up to the Syrian people to choose their own leaders, and no outside countries will be able to stop it. I chose this article to show how another country does not agree with what Assad is doing in Syria. This shows how he does not have the support of other countries, and is isolated.
  • Russia refuses more Syria sanctions

    Russia refuses more Syria sanctions
Dmitry Medvedev claimed that more sanctions are "not needed" because there were already existing UN and European Union sanctions. Syria has banned most of the journalists from entering the country, but there still have been videos and pictures of killings. I chose this article to show that even though there are many sanctions against the Syrian regime, this clearly isn't working and will require more outside forces.
  • Assad should quit, says King Abdullah as pressure mounts on Syrian regime

Assad should quit, says King Abdullah as pressure mounts on Syrian regime
King Abdullah of Jordan was one of the first Arab leaders to tell Bashar al-Assad to step down. The Arab League didn't know what sanctions they were going to establish because they already had too many which were already damaging their economy. The sanctions include the United States and Europe. I chose this article to show that Arab countries agree with the United State's proposition (that Bashar al-Assad should leave) along with other countries.
  • Turkey imposes sanctions on Syria

    Turkey imposes sanctions on Syria
Turkey has frozen Syria's assets to pressure Assad's government to end the violence in Syria. The prime minister of Turker also claimed that they were also going to stop the delivery of weapons as until Syria establishes a new government. Prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu also claimed that the government becomes less and less legitimate the more they harm their citizens. I chose this article to show that Bashar al-Assad is not getting any support from any other countries.
