Twin Towers Design (1962)
Minouru Yamasaki named lead architect. He used a tube frame introduced earlier by Fazlur Khan to have more support due to the towers being planned out at 110 stories. The tube frame had also been used so the buildings could flex in wind, this technology was also used in the Empire State Building. Vierendeel trusses were used to help with the buildings load. Pictured is the lead architect. -
Accused of Looking "Like a metal filing cabinet"
The twin towers faced controversy shortly after completion because many felt they looked ''too simple". Many people agreed they looked a lot like the boxy frames of the Empire State Building and the Chrysler building. -
Open Floor Plan
The towers had an open floor plan to accommodate for a more open feeling. In New York you don't have much space so an open feeling was very nice in such a crowded city. -
Twin Towers Collapse
The Twin Towers collapsed as a result of an Al-Quaeda plane attack. This was a very bad day that will be remembered for a long time. Around 3,000 people died that were in the towers at the time of the unexpected attack. -
Memorial Construction Starts
A memorial is being built to show where the Twin Towers were and is shaped like the base. it has a water fountain to commemorate peace and silence for the fallen. The structure of it is metal engraved with the victims names engraved. This is a remix to show the innocent people who died that sad day. -
Construction Starts on the New World Trade
Plans to build a new World Trade is in place and ground breaks on the old site of the Twin Towers. -
Memorial is Complete
The memorial had a deadline in place for the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. The memorial had to be complete and running with water and names of the loved ones on this day. They only allowed family of the victims into the site on this day to remember loved ones. Trees were also planted to give the site life and a sense of peace to such a tragic place. -
Similarities to the Old Towers
The One World Trade has the same location as the Twin Towers. The One World Trade and Twin Towers were both revolutionary tall for their era of building. The twin Towers had one edge of its building as a mirrored material to show some variation and the One World Trade used this as an inspiration for the building material. -
Ideas Taken from Other Buildings
A Georgia architect filed a lawsuit on the One World Trade builders for "taking" his idea. The One World Trade tower was very similar to the architects design and he felt they may have stolen it. The One World Trade is on a very stable frame and a reinforced frame to make sure it is very durable and will be around for a long time. -
One World Trade is Complete
The One World Trade is finally complete with many ideas taken from the old twin Towers and many ideas taken from other buildings too. The name of the tower is the One World Trade or Freedom Tower, this shows that there are no longer 2 towers and that the USA won't tolerate terrorism.
