The CDC's goal is to provides health information that saves lives and protects the United States against dangerous health threats.

    Late November 2019 COVID-19 broke out in Wuhan China. On December 31, 2019 the CDC became aware of cases in China and began working on a report.

    On January 20th, 2020, a man traveling back home from the Wuhan, China was the first reported case of COVID-19 in the United States. The CDC soon began their own investigation and tests.

    President Trump declared a national emergency for the COVID-19 pandemic issued on March 13th, 2020. So, by the end of March, the United States was in lockdown forcing everyone and everything to be put their daily lives on hold. The COVID-19 lockdown lasted from March 2020 into the end of 2020 when schools began to open again that fall.

    CDC Recommend Wearing a Mask

    On March 15, 2020 the CDC recommended limiting gatherings of 50 or more people for 8 or more weeks. By the end of March the CDC published a statement recommending that masks be used by someone who is sick or someone who is around someone sick. Lots of people at this time didn't fully understand how quickly COVID-19 was spreading.

    On April 10th, 2020, New Jersey was the first state to implement a state wide mask mandate. Soon after many other states followed with state wide mask mandates. The mask mandates brought lots of controversy between citizens of the US. Many people were opposed being required to wear a mask. Some people felt it was in violation of some constitutional rights. While other people felt it was necessary to keep themselves and others protected from the virus.

    Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine was first introduced on December 12th, 2020. This is the first time a vaccine is available to the US public. With the Introduction to more vaccines through the following weeks, the CDC recommends that everyone eligible to get the vaccine get vaccinated and the following booster shots. Image

    On November 7th, 2020 Joe Biden became president-elect after winning Pennsylvania, defeating President Donald Trump. With the transitioning of presidents in early 2021, the US was split into sides. Half of the country was celebrating while the other half was in disbelief.     On November 4th 2021, the Biden Administration made COVID-19 testing and vaccination required for business with more than 100 employers. Businesses were given until January 4th, 2021 to get employees vaccinated before weekly COVID-19 test's take place. This made many republicans unhappy as this is taking away the right to choose and make your own decision. Forcing people to test for COVID or get the vaccine violates the individual right of choice.

    On February 10, 2022 New York lifted their Mask Mandate officially ending Mask to be required anywhere in the United States. While their are no more state wide mask mandates remaining there still may be local mask mandates.

    The vaccine requirements and mask mandates have brought lots of controversy between the people in the United States. As much as people like or dislike these policies they are just an attempt to help us return to our normal lives. We must stay supportive and help educate ourselves and others. Sources
