    Seneca Falls Convention
    Women such as Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton helped organize this convention for women's rights. Here they created the Declaration of Sentiments, which established their wants and was based off of the Declaration of independence.
  • Woman’s Christian Temperance Union

    Woman’s Christian Temperance Union
    Led by Francis Willard, Opposed alcohol and supported prohibition for the women. Worked for Prohibition and suffrage. There slogan was "Do everything."
  • NAWSA

    NAWSA
    The National American Woman’s Suffrage Association's goal was to get women's suffrage in most states. Wyoming is the first state to join.
  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    Plessy v. Ferguson
    Supreme court ruled "separate but equal" law. This segregation would happen for 60 years and lead to lynching/further separation.
  • Prohibition Movement

    Prohibition Movement
    Against the consumption, production, or sale of alcohol. People wanted to eliminate abuse for women in families and save money that might potentially be used for alcohol.
  • New York Tenement House Law

    New York Tenement House Law
    Established model housing code for safety and sanitation...no more tenements. It required a minimum size and window, one full bathroom for ever two families, indoor plumbing, and inspectors to enforce them.

    Did 2 things: 1) Collect the evidence documenting child labor 2) Hire a photographer called Lewis Hines to photograph the child labor

    "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair
    This book helped the American citizens open their eyes to the problems of the nation around them. Specifically, it talks about the disgusting meat-packing industry.
  • Meat Inspection Act

    After "The Jungle" was written, American citizens became aware of the horrible conditions that the meat they eat was surrounded in. Therefore, it became a law that the meat must be inspected before and after production for the safety of the American consumers.
  • National Association for the Advancement of Colored People

    Created by DuBois, this association's goal was to get equal rights for African Americans by using their tactic of changing the law. They are still around today
  • Triangle Shirtwaist Fire

    Triangle Shirtwaist Fire
    During this time, the working conditions were very dangerous. Someone dropped and cigarette and a massive factory fire broke out. Many had died as a result of the locked door (prevent stealing) and there was no safe way out. Those (some teens) who did not burn, typically jumped to their death.

    The 17th Amendment allowed for 2 senators to be elected by the citizens directly, rather than through state legislatures.

    19th amendment
    Women were granted their suffrage. The 19th amendment had officially been ratified.

    Passed to eliminate the child labor in the U.S, along with providing fair wages and conditions for all workers.
