  • Bingley moves to Netherfield

    Mrs Bennet's life goal dream ambition is for her daughters to get married - Bingley is a perfect opportunity!
  • The Meryton Ball

    Bingley and Jane meet and dance several times - Bingley begins to favour her because of her beauty. Darcy is judged by the general public as pompous and full of pride because of his negligence to dance with others that were not in his party - Mrs Bennet dislikes him because he slights Elizabeth.
    'She is tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me'
  • Jane falls ill

    Jane catches a cold from being out in the rain and is looked after by those at the Bingley household.
  • Elizabeth visits Jane

    Elizabeth visits Jane at Bingley's - it becomes apparent that Miss Bingley favours Jane - as she dislikes Lizzie for being competition for Darcy.
  • Mr Collins arrives in Longbourn

    Mr Collins arrives after sending a letter to the Bennet family - we find out that he will inherit Longbourn - because of his entailment. He is very formal, yet ridiculous and conceited. This can be illustrated by the quote: 'I am happy on every occasion to offer those little delicate compliments which are always acceptable to ladies.'
  • Mr Wickham is introduced

    Mr Wickham is introduced and tells Elizabeth about his connection to Darcy. 'We are not on friendly terms, and it always gives me pain to meet him,' [Wickham referring to Darcy]
  • Mr Collins proposes to Elizabeth

    Mr Collins wants to marry due to Lady Catherine's advice ['Mr Collins, you must marry. A clergyman like you must marry.'] Elizabeth refuses him. 'Almost as soon as I entered the house I singled you out as the companion of my future life.' [Collins about Elizabeth]
  • Mr Collins and Charlotte Lucas get engaged

    After being rejected by Elizabeth, Mr Collins proposes to her friend Charlotte Lucas in the hopes of getting a yes - to everyone's surprise, Charlotte accepts his proposal. Elizabeth is very disappointed in er friend as she believed that she could do better than him, but Charlotte seized the opportunity of a future. 'I am convinced that my chance of happiness with him is as fair, as most people can boast on entering the marriage state.' [Charlotte]
  • Bingley leaves

    Bingley leaves for London with his party.
  • Darcy proposes to Elizabeth

    Darcy proposes to Elizabeth and she rejects him by explaining how horrible and dislikeable he has been. 'You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.' [Darcy to Elizabeth]
  • Darcy writes a letter to Elizabeth

    Darcy explains his actions and his situation with Wickham in a letter to Elizabeth.
  • Elizabeth goes to Derbyshire

    With the Gardiners. She meets with Darcy and warms up to him.
  • Lydia elopes with Wickham

    Elizabeth learns that Lydia eloped with Wickham through Jane's letter. She is upset because she believes she could have prevented it. 'My younger sister... has eloped; - has thrown herself in power of Wickham.'
  • Bingley and Darcy call on the Bennets

    Bingley and Darcy return to Hertfordshire. '...but Elizabeth, to satisfy her mother, went to the window - she looked, - she saw Mr Darcy with him.' [Him referring to Bingley]
  • Bingley proposes to Jane

    Jane accepts. 'The faces of both as they hastily turned around, and moved away from each other, would have told it all.'
  • Darcy proposes to Elizabeth

    She accepts! 'He still loves me, and we are engaged.'
