  • Thomas Jefferson VS. John Adams

    Thomas Jefferson VS. John Adams
    In the year 1800, the presidential election was between Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. This election was controversial because the 12th admendment was not in place yet. During this election Jefferson and Burr had the Democrat-Republicans vote for them faithfully and in the end they both ended up with the same number of votes, not knowing who would be President or Vice President. In the end Jefferson became President, and Burr was Vice President.
  • Greeley VS. Grant

    Greeley VS. Grant
    Greeley had lots of votes and was going to win if he had not died on November 29th. Since there was no precident his electors split up the votes between 4 minor candidates and in the end Grant won. This is portrayed differently in history because they make it out to seem like he crushed him.
  • Tilden VS. Hayes

    Tilden VS. Hayes
    Tilden who was a Democrat won the popular vote by a ton of votes, so everyone automatically thought he would win. The Electoral votes were really close and both parties agreed to set up a 15 person commission and in the end the one independant that was supposed to be unbiased died and was replaced by Republican who of course voted for Hayes. The Democrats threatened to filibuster but eventually agreed to a resolution if Hayes would remove federal troops from the South.
  • Bush VS. Gore

    Bush VS. Gore
    In 2000 there was a major political controversie between Bush and Gore. This came to be due to many rumors about road blocks being set up to cause problems for certain parties to vote. Also with punch card voting there was issues with determining who was voted for, causing the surpreme court to decide who Flordia counted for. In the end Bush was found to be president.
