  • Truman Doctrine

    Harry S, Truman gave this speech on March 12, 1947, it was an international policy to help out in the fields of economic and political needs. The Doctrine declared that the US would help Greece and Turkey.

  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was assistance for Europe. After their economic disaster, other nations created this aid to potentially "rescue" Europe, although the Soviet Union refused the service.

  • Creation of NATO

    NATO, standing for North Atlantic Treaty Organization, was an alliance formed of 10 European nations as well as the US and Canada to try and discourage Soviet expansion in Europe.

  • Arms race

    The arms race was between the US and USSR, it was the focus of the cold war. America tested out the first bomb called the Hydrogen or Thermo-Nuclear in 1952, beating the USSR of the creation of the first "Super Bomb". The ultimate goal of the arms race was to gain superiority of weapon accumulation.

    The Korean war happened from June 25, 1950 until July 27, 1953. The war was the first military action of the cold war, and the US entered on South Korea's behalf.

    The space race was a competition between the US and USSR. Both nations were trying to beat one another to gain spaceflight cability power. The Sputnik, an artifical satellite launched by the Soviets, literally launched off the Space War.

    The Vietnam war was a battle between North Vietname and its allies, the Viet Cong. 3 million soldiers, including 58,000 Americans died in this conflict.
