    • Supported The People and The Bill of Rights
    • Were Pro French rather than Pro British
    • Supported Small Farmers and Common Man
  • Jacksonain Party

    Jacksonain Party
    1824-1860. Jackson's policies followed the era of Jeffersonian democracy which dominated the previous political era.
    Jackson's supporters began to form the modern Democratic Party; they fought the rival Adams and Anti-Jacksonian factions, which soon emerged as the Whigs.
    During the Jacksonian era, the suffrage was extended to most white male adult citizens. Jacksonian democracy is the political movement toward greater democracy for the common man represented by Andrew Jackson.

    Formed in late 1820’s. Some important people in it were William Morgan and William Wirt. They ran against the Jacksonian Party. They lost in the election of 1832. They faded into the whig party in 1836.

  • Free Soil Party

    Free Soil Party
    Starting date 1848. It was made to be against slavery, their presidential candidate for the 1848 election was Martin Van Buren. He lost in that election to the whig partys candidate Zachary Taylor. The motto for the party was Free Soil, Free Speech, Free Labor and Free men. They formed into the Republican party when it formed in the 1850’s.
  • Know Nothing Party

    Know Nothing Party
    The Know-Nothing Party began in the late 1840s as an act to immigration to America. After some success in local elections, former president Millard Fillmore ran as the Know-Nothing candidate for president in 1856. Fillmore's campaign was a terrible and the party soon ended.
