    The pilgrims head out to cape cod with an open mind and a hunger for religious freedom, excited to discover their new home. "These troubles being blown over, and now all being compact together in one ship, then put to sea again with a prosperous wind, which continued divers days together..."

    The first man to die of disease was thrown overboard. At that point the reality of this whole voyage finally started setting in.
    “But it pleased God before they came half seas over, to smite this young man with a grievous disease, of which he died in a desperate manner, and so was himself the first that was thrown overboard."
  • The ship starts leaking and falling apart. It may possibly sink

    They don't think that the Speedwell is going to make it the whole voyage. The pilgrims have to decide whether to keep going or to go back. They decide to keep going because of their religious freedom.
    "And as for the decks and upper works, they would caulk them as well as they could, and though with the working of the ship they would not long keep staunch, yet there would otherwise be no great danger, if they did not overpress her with sails."

    They finally reach america and are very relieved, the immediately thank god.
    “Being thus arrived in a good harbor, and brought safe to land, they fell upon their knees and blessed the God of heaven who had brought them over the vast and furious ocean, and delivered them from the perils and miseries thereof, again to set their feet on the firm and stable earth, their proper element…”

    Squanto shows them where to hunt and shows them what they should eat. The pilgrims believe that he was sent by god to help them succeed on their new land.
    “…But Squanto continued with them and was their interpreter and was a special instrument sent of God for their good beyond their expectation."
