    The Start of Nationalism

    Fifty Spanish Ships went to the Phillipines from Mexico. The commander of four ships Miguel Lopez de Legazpi job was to estabilish peace with the locals. Legazpi's main job was to have a peaceful colonization and to spread the word of God. In the Phillipines the Cebuans killed 27 Spanairds. Back then the Phillipines where made up of little kingdoms, which they could be hostile or peaceful with each other.     British Occupation of Manila

    Main outcome of the British taking over the Phillipine was causing the Seven Years War. Which was fought between Britian and France. Sign of Militarism in which British ruled over manilla, and that Manilla was the capital and thus the key to the SPanish. After surrending to SPanish it became ruled by the Spanish.

    Waged war on the Spanish currently ruling them. US took control of the city, and it become the most brutal and the forgotten chapters of thier History of Militarism. Once the Philippines was reliunquished of Spanish rule, the Americans started to try to take over it, by stating that the Phillipine Congress was not recognized. That started another war in which Americans ruthlessy crushed the Phillipines.
  • End of the War

    The End of the war between the Phillipines and Americans, which was signed this date. The Fillipinos started guerrila tactics to stop the Americans, but then the Americans crushed them again. It was known as a bloody suppression, where the Americans ruled with fear as their main factor of power.

  • The Start of the Commonwealth of the Phillipines

    The predecessor of government to the Republic of Phillipines. Existed for 11 years. Made by the Tydings McDuffie Act, which was approved by the United States Congress. Manuel L. Quezon was the first ever inaugurated president in the Phillipines who ruled the whole country. The commonwealth governemnt was exiled in 1942-45 due to the Japenese occupation.
  • Japanese Rule

    It was conquered during World War 2, starting in December 8th 1941. The Americans guarding the Phillipines retreated after Pearl Harbor, and then they surrendered on April 9th to the Phillipines. They controlled 60% of all the islands.
  • Independency

    The Phillipines became independent without the notice of the US and was called the Second Phillipine Republic. They dared to declare thier independence due to the fact that the Unitied States had defeated the Japanese invaders on thier land.
  • Nationalism in Philippines

    Prior to this date, the Philippines was governed by the US, but then was allowed independence. President William McKinley listened to the Phillipinos crying for the chance to govern themselves, and then President Theodore Rooseevelt finally commerated the final act.

    Corazon Aquino insurgents formed a revolutionary government to normalize the situation, and provided for a transitional "Freedom Constitution". The new permanent constitution was ratified and enacted on this date.

    Defense Secretary Fidel V. Ramos won the presidency. He legalized the Communist Party and laid the groundwork for talks with communist insurgents, Muslim separatists, and military rebels, attempting to convince them to cease their armed activities against the government.
