    Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin was born in England and came from a long line of scientists. Prior to his studies in natural history, his father had hoped that he would have followed in his footsteps as a medical doctor. However the sight of blood unfortunately made him queasy and he was forced onto a different path.

    HMS Beagle
In 1831 Charles Darwin, who was twenty-two at the time and studying at the University of Cambridge, spent five years voyaging around the world on the HMS Beagle. The expedition was a survey trip where he spent his time as the naturalist studying plant, animal, and fossil life. His findings on the voyage allowed him to observe and collect data and provide evidence for his book, “On the Origin of Species.”

    “On the Origin of Species”
Darwin's book described the evolution of a species through a new concept known as natural selection, a process which survival of organic beings was dependent on the ability of the species to adapt to their environment. It took Darwin nearly thirty years to publish his book because he wanted written in such a way that the evidence supporting his new theory would be irrefutable.

His published work created a paradigm shift explaining that survival came did not come from creationism, the church supported theory that life was created from a divine force, but from the species ability to adapt to the environment. DNA studies would later provide evidence supporting his theory of evolution. Youtube Video:
