In 1928, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that women were not “persons” according to the British North America Act and therefore were ineligible for appointment to the Senate.

After deliberation for a very long time the Privy Council did reversed the decision of the Supreme Court.. The council concluded that “the word 'persons' in sec. 24 does include women, and that women are eligible to be acting members of the Senate of Canada.” That is a big win!!!!!
