Muhammad heard of a plan to assassinate him, so he and a few of his followers fled to Medina. This journey was called the Hijra.

Muhammad began to prepare for a campaign back to his home city. In 630, Muhammad marched on Mecca with 10,000 Muslim converts. With minimal casualties, Muhammad seized control of Mecca.

Most of the Meccans converted to Islam. Muhammad decided to destroy all the false statues of Arabian gods that were placed in and around the Kaaba.
