    White Australian Policy
    The White Australian Policy went from 1901- 1945. The Immagration Restriction Act was aimed at excluding non- white migrants and did so by requiring migrants to pass a dictation test which could be set in any languauge chosen by a customs officer.

    Post Second World War migration
    World War 2 resulted in a sense Australia needed to increase is populationin order to be able to adequetly defend the country- the concept of "populate or perish". Skill shortages were also a key issue during this period of migration and attracting skilled workers was an important migration goal. British settlers in particular were given special incentives and privileges to migrate, but the post- war period also saw an influx of immagrants from across Europe.

    The Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric had more than100,00 people from over 30 diferent countories come and work in the mountains. he Scheme took 25 years to build and was completed in 1974. It has Sixteen major dams, seven major power stations (two underground), a pumping station, 145kms of inter-connected trans-mountain tunnels and 80kms of aqueducts. Even before the Scheme was completed, it was named as one of the civil engineering wonders of the modern world.
