    China had just recovered from famine, but as the population was starting to grow, they feared that food wouldn’t be enough for everybody, so they implemented a birth control propaganda campaign.

    The two measures adopted by the government

    The government adopted a birth and an early marriage control, meaning you had to be old enough (over 20) to marry and have children.

    In spite of the birth control implemented in 1973 (contraceptive measures), population was growing even bigger and faster, damaging economy and making people wonder if they would fall in the famine again.

    The governement encouraged couples to have no more than two children.

    The "One Child Policy" was implemented (no more than one child).

    2000

    24% of the population (almost 106 million people) had been living without siblings for 19 years. There was lack of family; gradparents, parents, child (no aunts or uncles, nor cousins).

    In october, this policy came to an end, allowing people to have two children.

    Nowadays

    Nowadays, couples in China are allowed to have three children.
