    In 1850 William D. Brown stopped in council Bluffs on his way to the California Gold Rush. He was the opportunity to make money ferrying people across the river. So he started the Lone Tree Ferry Company.

    First Residents of Omaha
    Mr. and Mrs. William P. Snowden took the ferry across the river and set up residence. They lived in a little log cabin that had been built as a "hotel". Two weeks later they built their own log cabin on what is now 10th Street. They held the first party on Omaha to celebrate their new home.
