Valarie Shuck Book: Off The Page

  • Premise

    Premise
This book is the sequel to Between the Lines. The book is about how fairytale prince Oliver is out of the book and replaced with Edgar, the author's son. Oliver wanted to be out to be with Delilah, but he has to pretend to be the author's son. Soon, everything goes crazy. I chose this book because I read Between the Lines, and I wanted to read the sequel. Because the book switches perspective, I will be talking about everything through Delilah's perspective.
  • First Event: The First Day of School

First Event: The First Day of School
For Delilah and Oliver, It's the first day of high school. Over the summer, Delilah taught Oliver how to be a normal high school so he wouldn't act like the prince of a fairytale. It's troubling for Oliver because all he wants to do is hold and kiss Delilah, but he can't because they are at school. During the day, Delilah helps Oliver get to his classes and interact with their peers.
  • My thinking for Event 1

    My thinking for Event 1
Thinking: This event stood out to me because Oliver is just getting adjusted to not being in a fairytale and being in high school which is causing him many dificulties. I related it to my life because I know what it's like to get adjusted to something completely new. An example is the transition I had between elementry school and middle school.
  • Event 2: Breakup

    Event 2: Breakup
Soon after beginning school, Oliver joins the drama club. Delilah's enemy, Allie, is in drama club as well. At this time, they are doing the play Romeo and Juliet. Because of Oliver's gain of popularity, Delilah becomes upset and they get into a fight. Soon, Delilah walks into the auditorium so she can apologize to Oliver. When she walks in, she finds Oliver and Allie kissing. She then proceeds to break up with Oliver.
  • My thinking for event 2

    My thinking for event 2
Thinking: This is an important event because Oliver finally got out of the book to be with Delilah, and Oliver and Delilah love each other with their lives. This was a big plot twist in the book. This part is very easy to relate to because many teenagers including myself have gone through a terrible breakup and/or have been cheated on.
  • Event 3: Realization

    Event 3: Realization
After the dramatic breakup, Oliver does everything in his power to get back together with Delilah such as reciting Romeo and Juliet to her. Sadly, those tries are futile. Soon after, Delilah is in her room crying as her mother is talking to her about the situation. Her mom proceeds to ask the very important question "Do you love him?" Delilah is silent, and her mother leaves the room because Oliver is in the doorway. Finally, they get back together and he tells her "I love you."
  • My thinking for event 3

    My thinking for event 3
Thinking: This is a very important event because from this point on Oliver and Delilah were attached at the hip and would get married right on the spot if they could. They would do anything for each other. This is easily relatable because there is most likely have someone in your life you love dealry or someone you'll do anything for.
  • Event 4: New People

    Event 4: New People
Because of Oliver being out of the book, the book is going crazy trying to refix itself. Frump, who is a dog and Oliver's best friend, is still in the book and misses Oliver. Suddenly, Frump appears in the normal world and Delilah's dog switches with Humphery. This also occurs in the book later on as Jules, Delilah's best friend, switches with Seraphima, the princess of the book.
  • My Thinking for Event 4

    My Thinking for Event 4
Thinking: This is an important part because characters from the book are switching with people in the real world which is causing a lot of trouble for Oliver and Delilah. This is relatable because crazy and/or monumental things can happen in your life within a split second.
  • Event 5: Death

    Event 5: Death
In this section of the story, Frump and Seraphima are till in the real world. Seraphima and Frump get into a fight, and Frump runs out into the street. No one sees the car coming. The car runs over Frump, and he dies. Oliver tries to tell Delilah to just flip back to the start of the book, but she has to explain to Oliver the world doesn't look like that. Everyone is devastated. Soon after, Delilah, Oliver, and Seraphima bury and hold a small funeral for Frump.
  • My Thinking for Event 5

    My Thinking for Event 5
Thinking: This is a huge part of the story because Frump was one of the main people in the fairytale, and everyone in the fairytale was very attached and close to him, especially Oliver and Seraphima. This part is relatable because many people lose a close pet either expectedly or unexpectedly.
  • Event 6: The Switch

    Event 6: The Switch
Soon, Edgar gets tired of being in the book, and he found a way for Jules to get out of the book. For Delilah, this is devastating. Because Oliver and Edger are switching, Delilah has to lose Oliver. To do the switch, Edgar has to eat a wishing biscuit. Socks, the horse in the fairytale, accidentally started eating the biscuit. He then had to make the wish, and it worked.
  • My Thinking for Event 6

    My Thinking for Event 6
Thinking: This is an important part of the book because Edger is switching with Oliver and Delilah has to do without him. Edger can finally see his mom and Jules is now back in the real world. This part can be easily relatable because we have all lost someone that is very important to us in our lives.
  • Event 7: Finding Out

    Event 7: Finding Out
Edger is finally home and gets to be with his mom. Unfortunatly, it's not as great as it seems. His mom faints in front of him, and he has to drive her to the hospital. He soon finds out that his mom has a brain tumor and is going to die in four months. He is going to lose his mother just like he lost his father years ago.
  • My Thinking for Event 7

    My Thinking for Event 7
Thinking: This is a monumental part of the story because Edger's mom is the author of the fairytale, and he is very close to his mom. This reminded me when I found out my grandpa had lung cancer. I cried and wanted more than anything for him to be healthy becaue of how close I am to him.
  • My Thinking for Event 8

    My Thinking for Event 8
Thinking: This is a huge part of the story because everyone gets to live happily ever after. This reminded me of when I met my current signifacnt other because at that moment, it made me feel like I fould my happy ever after.
  • Event 8: The Second Switch

    Event 8: The Second Switch
Soon after finding out about Edgar's mom's illness, Edger, Delilah, Jules, and Oliver devise a plan. Because Edgar wants to be with his mom, and Oliver wants to be with Delilah, Oliver and Queen Maureen, Oliver's mom in the fairytale, will switch with Edgar and his mom so they can both get their happy ever after. They plan to wish for it on Edgar's birthday. In a grand moment for everyone, the wish works, and Oliver and Queen Maureen switch with Edgar and his mom.
  • Event 9: Happily Ever After - Edger's side

Event 9: Happily Ever After - Edger's side
For Edgar and his mom, they have their happy ever after inside the book. Edgar is getting to do his own version of space travel with Seraphima. They get to ride on Pyro, the dragon, as their space ship, and they discuss multiple science theories. His mom gets to right many different stories and lives happy and healthy. Thinking: This is the happy ever after for Edgar and his mom. It's relatable because lots of children want a good relationship with their mom.
  • Event 10: Happily Ever After - Delilah and Oliver's Side

Event 10: Happily Ever After - Delilah and Oliver's Side
For Oliver and Delilah, they get to live their happy ever after in the real world. Oliver got accepted to a college that is olnly two towns away from Delilah. Oliver and Delilah finally get to live together and happily ever after. Thinking: This is Delilah and Oliver's happy ever after. This reminds me of every fairytale ever that is like this.
  • Reflection

    Reflection
This book was amazing overall. It was a slow start of me not wanting to read the book but getting into it and wanting to read more of it over time. I would defiantly recommend this book as long as the person reads the first book before this one. I would defiantly watch a movie if there were one. The book was believable despite its fantasy element. The part about it that was believable was the romantic aspect of it. The only thing of the book I would change is to have it not make me cry so much.
