    The pilgrims set sail on there way to freedom. it is not long into their journey until people start dieing.
    “And yet the Lord so upheld these persons as in this general calamity they were not at all infected either with sickness or lameness” (32).

    The person that was causing them trouble died from a sickness. They say that god is helping them every way he can since they he knew the journey would be hard.
    “But it pleased God before they came half seas over, to smite this young man with a grievous disease, of which he died in a desperate manner, and so was himself the first that was thrown overboard. Thus his curses light on his own head, and it was an astonishment to all his fellows for they noted it to be the just hand of God upon him”

    They do not think that the ship is going to make it all the way across the ocen. In the book it says “And as for the decks and upper works, they would caulk them as well as they could, and though with the working of the ship they would not long keep staunch [watertight], yet there would otherwise be no great danger, if they did not overpress The pilgrims have to decide whether to keep going or turn around and go back. They decide to keep going because religious freedom is very important to them.

    A man gets flown off the ship but catches himself on a rope . This was considered another way god is helping them through this journey across the ocean.. It is not long after this they rech land,but they are not satified with where they are at. In the book it say“If they looked behind them, there was the mighty ocean which they had passed and was now as a main bar and gulf to separate them from all the civil parts of the world… What could now sustain them but the Spirit of God and His grace?     The pilgrims meet samoset and since he does not know english very well he introduces squanto to them. “…But Squanto continued with them and was their interpreter and was a special instrument sent of God for their good beyond their expectation. He directed them how to set their corn, where to take fish, and to procure other commodities, and was also their pilot [guide] to bring them to unknown places for their profit, and never left them till he died” (33).He teaches them how to live off the land
