    Voyage on the Mayflower
    This was the settlers first winter on the new land. There trip was very miserable and dangerous. It was very dangerous because many sailors onboard got seasickness. “And yet the Lord so upheld these persons as in this general calamity they were not at all infected either with sickness or lameness” (32).

    Man Overboard
    While all of the sailors were riding through these storms a man named John Howland was thrown overboard but was then saved and brought back onboard.“And in one of them, as they thus lay at hull in a mighty storm, a lusty young man called John Howland, coming upon some occasion above the gratings was, with a seele [sudden lurch] of the ship, thrown into sea; but it pleased God that he caught hold of the topsail halyards which hung overboard and ran out at length” (30)
  • Harassment

    Harassment
    Sailors on the ship were made fun of bu they overcame this becase the one sailor caught a disease and died. “But it pleased God before they came half seas over, to smite this young man with a grievous disease, of which he died in a desperate manner, and so was himself the first that was thrown overboard. Thus his curses light on his own head, and it was an astonishment to all his fellows for they noted it to be the just hand of God upon him” (29).
  • The Main Beam Cracks

    The Main Beam Cracks
    The main beam cracked on the ship and they didnt think they would be able to continue their voyage, but they made temporary adjustments by placing a screw in place. “And as for the decks and upper works, they would caulk them as well as they could, and though with the working of the ship they would not long keep staunch [watertight], yet there would otherwise be no great danger, if they did notoverpress her with sails. So they committed themselves to the will of God and resolved to proceed."(30)
  • Finally Landed

    Finally Landed
    The sailors finally land in Cape Cod and they realize they have picked a terricble time to go there. Many sailors died due to starvation because they didnt pack enough food. “Being thus arrived in a good harbor, and brought safe to land, they fell upon their knees and blessed the God of heaven who had brought them over the vast and furious ocean, and delivered them from the perils and miseries thereof, again to set their feet on the firm and stable earth, their proper element…” (30-31)
