  • First Kidnapping

    2 members of the Liberation Cell of the FLQ kidnap British Trade Commissioner James Cross from his home in Montreal
  • Second Kidnapping

    Members of the Chenier Cell kidnap Pierre Laporte, Minister of Labour of the province of Quebec, in his front yard while he was playing football with his nephew.
  • Letter from Pierre

    CDC receives and broadcasts a letter from captivity from Pierre Laporte to the Premier of Quebec, Robert Bourassa
  • Military Engagement

    The Canadian Army is sent to patrol the Ottawa region, leaders are appointed to begin release negotiations.
  • Students and Celebrities Get Involved

    Robert Lemieux, lawyer and negotiator for the FLQ, urges students at the University of Montreal to boycott classes in support for the FLQ. 16 Canadian celebrities call for exchange of the hostages for political prisoners.
  • FLQ Support on the Rise

    Lemieux organizes a 3,000 student rally in Paul Sauve Arena to show support for the FLQ. He stated, "We are going to win because there are more boys ready to shoot members of Parliament than there are policeman."
  • Emergency Powers Granted

    Premier Bourassa requests a grant from the government to give the government of Quebec emergency powers that allow them to arrest individuals. This results in the implementation of the War Measures Act allowing the writ of habeas corpus, giving wide-reaching powers to arrest to the police.
  • Laporte is Executed

    The Chenier Cell of the FLQ announces that Pierre Laporte had been executed. He was strangled and his body was stuffed into the truck of a car and abandoned in the bush on the outskirts of Montreal. The Liberation Cell announces they are delaying the death of Cross indefinitely but will not release him until the demands are met.
  • Police Raid Chenier Cell

    Police raid the hiding place of the Chenier cell. 3 members escape the raid but the leader of the cell is arrested and charged with the kidnapping and murder of Laporte.
  • Cross is Released

    Negotiations go through and James Cross is released. The 5 known kidnappers are granted safe passage to Cuba and are flown by Canadian military planes.
  • Troops Withdrawn from Quebec

    Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau announces that all troops will be slowly withdrawn from Quebec.
  • Chenier Cell Members are Arrested

    The 3 remaining Chenier cell members at large are found and arrested. They would later be charged with kidnapping and murder of Laporte.
