Annemarie, Ellen, and Kirsti are stopped on the streets by soldiers who tell them not to run.

The Johansens take Ellen so that the parents can escape. The Nazi soldiers are getting suspicious and search the Johansens house.

The Johansens take Ellen on a visit to their Uncle Henrik's house.

The Johansens take a visit to Uncle Henrik's house by taking a train.

When at Uncle Henrik's house, they have Aunt Birte's funeral. Annemarie however, is starting to think that their is a secret going on and that they are lying to her.

Uncle Henrik finally tells her that they are trying to smuggle Jews to Sweden and that Aunt Birte is just a coffin full of warm clothes for the trip.

The Jews hold a funeral for Aunt Birte and when they do the German soldiers come and demand to open the casket to make sure that they are not trying to smuggle something to Sweden. But Mrs. Johansen tells them that Aunt Birte died from Typhus and that she is contagious.

The Jews follow Uncle Henrik to the boat and they are starting to prepare to smuggle for the journey across the sea to Sweden

Annemarie finds a handkerchief on the ground and has to run it back to the boats to help Uncle Henrik.

Annemarie, on her way to give Uncle Henrik the Handkerchief, ran into some soldiers. They stopped her and she gave the dogs some food and a whiff of the handkerchief. She fooled the dogs and was let on her way to the docks.

The Jews go into the boat and sail safely across to Sweden.

After all the Jews left, the Johansens went back to their home in the city.

Peter Nielsen, a friend of the Johansens, was caught and executed by the Nazis for being a resistance fighter.

The war ends in Denmark two years later.

The Johansen girls have matured very much since the war started. Annemarie understands the sacrifices that they had to make.
