Annemarie's older sister Lise is killed from getting run over by a car.

The day after Pearl Harbor, the U.S. enters World War 2.

German Soldiers halt Ellen and Annemarie. They are both scared.

German soldiers try to arrest all Jews including the Rosens.

While Ellen stays with Annemarie and her familiy, Ellen's parents run away.

When soldiers come to see if Annemarie's family is hiding any Jews Ellen pretends to be Lise so the soldiers won't know that she is jewish.

Since they are scared for Ellen's safety, Annemarie, her mom, Kirti, and Ellen run away to Uncle Henrik's house.

Annemarie, when at Uncle Henrick's, learns that sometimes parents have to tell you something that is not true to help you be brave.

Many jews come to Uncle Henrik's were they pretend to mourn for the fake dead great aunt Betty.

The Rosens and the other Jews leave to be taken to Sweden by Uncle Henrick. Annemarie is sad.

When Annemarie's mom gets back from getting the Rosens to uncle Henriks boat they find a handkerchief that the Rosens needed.

Annemarie's mom tells Annemarie to run as fast she could and give the handkerchief, which she placed under food in a basket, to Uncle Henrick.

When Annemarie finally gets to uncle Henrick she hands him the handkerchief and he becomes relieved.

When running on the narrow path Annemarie runs into soldiers that ask her of her bussiness. She acts like a silly girl giving food to her uncle who is fishing.

When uncle Henrik gets back Annemarie asks why the handkerchief was important. He says that it was important because the handkerchief had a drug that would throw a German dog's scent from finding Jews, like the Rosens.

Every one is glad that the war and the occupation is over.

Uncle Henrik tells Annemarie that Lise was run over by a car on purpose, becuase she was apart of the resistence. The resistence was a group that did whatever it could to stop the Germans.
