  • Cognitive Revolution

    Cognitive Revolution
Being a linguist, he believed that language was a biological capacity. Chomsky even believed that learning a language as a child consisted of an "unconscious construction of a grammar from these principles in accordance with cues drawn from the child's linguistic environment." (McGilvray 2019). He believes it is a creative principle instead of a casual principle.
  • Theory of Universal Grammar

    Theory of Universal Grammar
Universal Grammar is a theory done by Chomsky. He basically says that as children, we knew by instinct how to combine words and take away words and even how to switch them to other things. The full definition would include, "an idea of innate, biological grammatical categories, such as noun category and a verb category that facilitate the entire language development in children and overall language processing in adults." (Lemetyinen 1970).
  • Language and Mind

    Language and Mind
Language and Mind is one of the books that Chomsky wrote. This is where he was able to propose his theories on language. One major quote from this book was, "'When we study human language, we are approaching what some might call the 'human essence,' the distinctive qualities of mind that are, so far as we know, unique to man.'" (Chomsky 2014).
  • The Structure of Language

    The Structure of Language
Chomsky says, "people learn language without training." (Chomsky). He believes through the creativity, we learn to speak. There is no need to be within a training portion to learn how to say things the way we can now. Children have the ability to make complex sentences on their own without needing the help in some ways.
