"Night" Timeline

  • Spring 1944

    The government is taken over by the Fascists, which turns out to be the start of Jewish persecution in the communities.
  • Cattle Cars

    The Jews are forced into cattle cars on their way to become relocated in internment camps.
  • Madame Scachter

    One of the women on the train, Madame Schachter, begins to cause a scene for nights in a row as she hysterically claims to have seen fire.
  • Auschwitz

    The Jews on the cattle cars are deported to a concentration camp in Auschwitz, where they realize that where they are going is not as nice of a place as they were expecting. They are soon horrified find out that it is a very dangerous place where people are getting killed and bodies are getting burned on the daily.
  • Kapo Officer Gets Mad

    The Kapo officer that is in charge of Eliezer's unit exhibits fairly irrational anger issues, and lashed out at Eliezer one day for no apparent reason and beat him until he fainted.
  • The Gold Tooth

    A foreman at Buna notices Elie's gold crown, and insists on having it. Elie refuses, but gives in once the foreman starts beating up Elie's father as blackmail.
  • Soup

    During an air raid, two buckets of soup are left unattended. One elderly man brings himself to help himself to soup, but is shot down on the spot.
  • Public Hanging

    One day, all of the prisoners are forced to watch as two men and a young boy are hanged in the public square.Too small for the noose, the prisoners watch in agony as the young boy suffers and slowy suffocates. The prisoners are horrified and distraught, and ultimately begin to question their faith at this point for they believe that there is no God who would allows such cruel and torterous acts to occur.
  • Rosh Hashannah

    Eliezer loses his Jewish faith as he cannot bring himself to praise God after all of the traumatizing things he has seen at the camp.
  • Selection

    Elizer and his father are placed to work in different units. His father, at this time, has become very weak and is one of the people chosen to be executed. He gives Elie his knife and spoon for these are the only possessions for Elie to inherit. Later, it turns out though, that there has been a second selection process and Elie's father has been spared.
  • They are basically robots, without control of there body

  • Elie and his father keep going even if it is taking our their energy not to stop

  • the boy with the violin takes his last breath doing what he loves

  • When Elie has chances of fighting for food he doesn't take them becasue he is exhausted

  • Elie is watching people die

  • then his father doesnt die and Elie gives the spoon and knife back

    Around the middle of january, elie started to realize he would lose his foot.

    As Germany begins to move in to Auschwitz, the prisoners at the camp are forced to relocate. Since Elie is still in the infermary, he gets out and leaves with the rest of the prisoners because he thought that the patients in the infermary would be put to death. Later, he finds out, this was not the case and the patients who stayed in the infermary were liberated.
  • Goodbye father

    The night before Elies father was in the bottom bunk, dying but still alive and calling out his sons name. He was suffering so much for the past few weeks. On this day he woke up and noticed another sick person on the bunk. His fathehis fathers death, he was too numb. Elie r was dead. This left Elie free and yet guilty. He couldn't cry over anything anymore.

    The prisoners waited for the ss officer to come into the block and count them, but he was late. Soon the loud speakers went off and ordered jews to gather in the appelplatz. Some believed this was finally the end, Hitler would keep his promise, but turns out the resistance had fanally caught up.
  • Freedom...

    The russians fought there way into to the camp and won the battle. The men were free and there first act was to eat.
