    Night takes place in the mid 1900's and the main character is a boy named Elie. He is Jewish and has a family of working parents and also three sisters. Elie also has a friend named Moishe the Beadle and some people are fond of him and others are'nt. Soon, Moishe is taken by the Hungarian police to go fight in the war but he escaped. Then later the Germans take Elie and others to go fight. There is a mad lady who keeps telling them there's a fire when there's not, but a few days later there is.

    When Elie is taken by the German soldiers, he and his father are forced to work in a warehouse. Elie had also met a girl in the warehouse he was working in many years later, he had somehow met her again. Elie and his father also have to march but Eli's father was being beaten for not doing his duties right. The German soldiers have been killing more men. Time has passed and Elie and his father desperately want to leave this camp. They have been working too hard for too long.

    More men are starting to grow weaker and weaker from working and marching so they're starting to give up. Soon Elie's friend Juliek also dies. Days had passed by and Elie and his father had made it out of the camp. They had traveled for a long time in the deep cold snow starving without food. Then they come across a train that takes them back home. Some men on the train didn't make it back though. And soon, Elie became very ill when they got back and he was worried his death was near.
