The CIA and U.S took actoin in helping the Somoza. But shortly after the U.S realized we needed to send the Life Guard in Red Cross marked helicopters to help out. -

In May of 1981 the new Contras army of formed to fight the Sandinista government. -
Breaking the Law?
In April of 1984, the government of Nicaragua and the leader Daniel Ortega filed law suits saying that U.S broke the international law. The court agreed, but the U.S never complied or payed back Nicaragua, which led many countries to question the trust of the U.S.
