  • The first treaty between the Oto Tribe and the US government

    This is where they gave the US land. The US had to give the Indians a bunch of land.
  • Preemption Act of 1841 passed

    Preemption Act of 1841 passed

    This is where the government let random people go and settle the new land. This is how a majority of Nebraska and Kansas got settled.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act passed

    Kansas-Nebraska Act passed

    This made Kansas and Nebraska territories of the US. It allowed the two new territories to decide if they wanted to be slave or free states.

    Civil War

    This is where the Southern states decided to secede from the Union and the North said that they weren't allowed to secede. Then the North said slavery was bad and the South said it was okay.

  • Homestead Act passed

    This allowed someone to come and take 160 acres of land. They only had to pay $10 and live there for 5 years.

  • The Charter for the Transcontinental Railroad passed

    This is where they said that the Transcontinental Railroad can be built. They said this so that they could have a railroad because this makes faster transportation.

  • Morrill Act passed

    This is where the government gave land for colleges. They made the colleges that they created teach ag and engineering.

    Construction of the transcontinental railroad

    This is where the US started to build the Transcontinental RR so that they could have an easy path across the country. It was designed to connect the east with the west.

  • Plum Creek Massacre

    This happened when the Indians attacked a bunch of people on a trail. They killed 13 people and captured 2 more.

  • Sand Creek Massacre

    This is where the US attacked a bunch of Indians. They did this because the Indians had been attacking the settlers for no reason.

  • Nebraska becomes a State

    This happened because the US wanted land to build a railroad on. They were allowed to pick if they wanted to be slave or free and they chose to be free.

  • The first Treaty of Fort Laramie

    This is where the US gave the Indians a place to live. They gave them a place where only they were allowed to live.
  • 1892 treaty between the US government and the Lakota Tribe

    This is where the US got some land from the Lakota tribe. They gave us a little bit of what is now Nebraska and we gave them a little money.
