    The Charter for the Transcontinental Railroad passed
    There was two companies that were battling each other by building the railroad. They didn't get paid in money, but instead they were paid in 10 miles of the railroad. The two companies were the Union Pacific, and the Central Pacific. The Union Pacific lost because they had to build over mountains while the Central Pacific didn't have to go over that many mountains, so they were able to cover the most land.
