By 1941 ranchers have taken advantage of Kaho'olawe. They brought over sheep adn cattle. They have slowly diminished the plants and leaves by grazing. By the late 1890s there were 900 cattle and about 15,000 sheep.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower gives Kaho'olawe to the military for use. It is said that island needs to be returned in habitable condition.

Members of Protect Kaho‘olawe ‘Ohana (PKO) staart occupations on the island in hopes to stop the bombing. The PKO later files a law suit on the Federal District about the bombing.

U.S Navy has transfered the deed of Kaho'olawe back to the state of hawaii adn the K.I.R.C program is in charge of managing activities.

The U.S Navy declares the end of the UXO clearence project. They have cleared 75% of teh surface and 10% of that is at a depth of 4 feet.
