Indians of All Tribes occupied Alcatraz and declared it Indian Territory in 1969 to help raise awareness of Indian rights and discrimination. -

Founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota in order to decrease federal violence and discrimination. -
Occupation of Wounded Knee by Oglala Sioux
AIM (American Indian Movement) occupied Wounded Knee and took authorities hostage to raise awareness of the conditions on Native Reservations. AIM was disbanded and the leaders were sent to prison. -
Major Accomplishments
The Longest Walk: Indian Nations walked across the US to protest anti-Indian legislation. 1965 Voting Rights: Ended the states ability to chose if Native Americans could vote. Trail of Broken Treaties: The treaty addressed the failed responsibilities of the US government, and restored land to the Native Americans. -

Native American Language Act (1990)
- Before the Native American Language Act, natives had to assimilate into US culture and schools.
- The US government realized that the culture and language of natives was unique in that they have the right to speak there native language.

Cobell v. Salazar and the claims resolution act
Native Americans sued the Department of the Interior for mismanaging Native American trust funds. The government settled and the Claims Resolution Act was passed by Congress in 2010 which will give $3.4 billion to Native American groups. -
Poverty and Exploitation of Natural Resources (problems)
Poverty: Native Americans have the highest poverty rate out of all ethnic groups in America.
Exploitation of natural resources: Europeans have exploited Native American resources since colonization of America and it still continues today.
