The United States bought land from the French in 1803 that intervened with tribal lands already in existence in that area. -
Lewis and Clarke Expedition
Fueled by the Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clarke explored the land west of the Mississippi from 1804-1806, crossing the Rockies and reaching the Oregon coast on the Pacific Ocean. It helped in the development of maps and land routes for fur trappers and future settlers. -
Indian Removal Act
Jackson's solution to compel Native Americans to leave their homelands and resettle west of the Mississippi. This was the forced Indians resettlement of thousands. -
Worcester v. Georgia
The Supreme Court ruled that the Native Americans did have rights to their lands. -
Trail of Tears
Caused by the Indian Removal Act of 1830, Native American tribes were forced to move from west on this trail which killed thousands. -
The Oregon Trail
Americans were moving westward on the Oregon Trail during the 1840s through 1860s, This trail, however, went through many of the Indian territories that existed at the time and distrubed several tribes, causing some conflicts. -
Battle of Wounded Knee
A battle over Indian territory which led to a very hign number of Indian Casualties due to advanced American technology and traditional Indian Weaponry
