    cheyenne warriors raided some ranches to take food to feed their families
    the us army killed and mutilated an estimated 70-500 native americans, about two-thirds of whom were women and children
    congress asked for an investigation and john m chivington was thrown out of the army

    as gold miners rushed into the ares, the sioux, cheyenne, and arapaho went on the warpath-the mining industry caused just as much conflict as settlers did
    clusters cavalry were to subdue them but her foolishly attacked a farce of 2500 with only 750 in montana and was wiped out
    the native american victory was short lived though and more soldiers were sent into the area
    a pyrrhic victory: native americans won the battle but lost the war
