My first day in kindergarten was hard, I didn't know what anyone was saying. We tried reading and I was reading it as if it were Spanish, so nothing made sense.

A girl realized I was always lost in class. She told me she could help since she knew Spanish and English and she helped me with reading.

Once I learned how to read and had practice with my friend, I learned about the Book Fair, where I bought 10 books and read them in that same week.

In 5th grade, I was put in a class that were for students who were behind in their reading levels

My middle school had a contest for who could read the most books in a month. I won by reading 10 chapter books. Some may say it wasn't a lot but it was a great accomplishment for me.

I started focusing on sports instead of school. My reading level dropped drastically and I would take longer reading and I had a hard time with comprehension.

I realized that I didn't want to be reading below my grade level, I wanted to read above grade level. I focused on school, and got in English Honors and Spanish Class.

A student in my class had just moved from Mexico, so she was struggling in catching up with reading. I helped her with the readings and I helped her with notes. I was able to help someone else like I was helped when I was little.

I decided to take English 101 and 102 during my senior year which challenged me to read at a higher level, which was amazing. I also took AP Spanish. I took a biliteracy Exam and got a percent score which got me a bilingual certification and a seal of biliteracy on my diploma.

As of now I read all the time and nonstop. I read book after book and I encourage my brother to read, so that his vocabulary can expand.
