My Rational

  • First Nation Children

In 1920 Duncan Campbell Scott negotiated a joint agreement between national government and various churches to establish a residential school system for First Nation Children. In these schools the children were beat, sexually assaulted and killed if they even spoke in their own language. This was a time of decline for first nation children and I would give it a -2.
  • Henry Ford

Henry Ford paid all his employees enough money so that they could afford to buy the cars they were building. This made everyone want to work at Ford so other companies raised up their wages so that people would want to work with them. All Wages Went Up Thanks To Henry Ford. This was a time of progress for automobiles in the economy of the 1920's I would give it a +2.
  • Women's Rights

Emily Murphy and the famous five went on a political statement around Canada to get women the right to vote. They were indeed successful and got women ages 18 and up the right to vote. It was a great political change in the 1920's and was a time of progress, I give Woman's rights a +2.
  • Industrial Growth

Unions formed to fight for better pay from companies who wouldn't raise wages, their was high employment through the twenties. Even women were getting laid off because men came back from war. Ontario booms with mining, oil, gas, hydro electricity. This was a time of progress and decline when it comes to industrial growth in the 1920's so i would give it a 0.
  • Cultural Changes

Art is one of the main cultural changes, the group of seven who painted Canada's landscapes. Authors created cultural change by writing Canadian based books. And also Canadian football and the NHL. Canadians became famous for our music which effected our culture and changed the music style. I would say this was a time of medium progress and would give it a +1.
  • Social Changes

One thing that was a social change was the American shift. Business start trading more with the US of A, Hollywood supplied 95% of our movies came from America and by the 1930's we did 5 times more business with the USA vs Great Britain. Also American radio stations flooded our airways. Then Canadian medical advance put our country on the map. This was a time of both progress and decline so would give it a +1.
  • Housewives

Housewives when their husbands went to war got jobs so they could provide for their family now that their husbands were gone. But when the men came back they were laid off and had lots of money from working. Industry owners were thinking of appliances and things to make so that the women would spend money. That's when lots of new appliances came out to help make housewives job easier like washing machines, radios, vaccumes. I think this was a time of progress and decline so I give it a +1.
  • Modern Medicine

During the 1920's two important medical discoveries were found and changed the face of modern medicine today. They were Penicillin and Insulin, with this new medicine people we living to ages 55 and over. It helped put Canada on the map and was a time of progress. I give modern medicine a +2
  • Jazz

When you think of the "roaring twenties" or sometimes called"the jazz age" the first thing that comes to your mind is probably the incredible jazz music. Jazz was always smooth and something you could slow dance to and during the 1920's people just fell in love with it. With how popular jazz was I would say this was a time of progress for music and I wold rate it a +2
  • Mary Pickford

Mary Pickford was the most famous and powerful actress in Hollywood during the 1920's. She was married twice and opened up a studio with her late husband which made her very wealthy. This was a time for increasing the audience for films and growing the economy. I would say this was a time of progress so I would rate it a +1
