My dad had a huge record collection-I especially remember the Christmas records. We'd listen to Alabama, the Oak Ridge Boys, and Nat King Cole. I loved listening to records-I remember when they'd get stuck and you'd hear that scratch and had to go fix the needle.

We had a huge stereo in our house. We always had some sort of music playing.
-
I remember when we bought an 8 track tape. It was so exciting! My dad bought me a Smurfs tape. I listened to it forever!!
-
I remember when I got my first boom box. It was the cool thing because it was portable. I could move it around the house-when I was studying, etc, it went with me everywhere.

I loved creating mix tapes. We'd record music from the radio onto a cassette tape. We'd put the songs in random order and listen to them over and over. We'd give them to our friends, boys we liked, etc. It was a fun way to share music with each other.

It was so cool when the Walkman was invented. I loved listening to my mix tapes, and the cassettes I'd bought. Tiffany was the first tape I ever owned.
-
Even cooler than the Walkman was the Discman. The invention of the CD was so cool! No more tapes unspooling. But, then the CD would get a scratch. So annoying....
-
When I went off to college, I got a CD stereo. My roommates and I would pool our CDs, and listen to them for hours.
-
When the MP3 player came out, I had to have one. It was mind blowing to think that it was so small! I wasn't cool enough to have an Ipod, so I went with the generic MP3.

Then, we started listening to music on our cell phones. You plugged in your headphones, and you were good to go! This one took me a lot longer to adjust to, admittedly. I don't know why, exactly.

There are tons of streaming services out there, from Pandora to Spotify to Iheartradio to SiriusXM. The one that's my favorite at the moment is Amazon music. I can have music in my classroom, on my phone, in my car, and on my Alexa speaker at home.
