History class timeline 2015-2016

  • Declaration of Independence

    Even though the Declaration of Independence was supposedly signed on July 4, it was actually signed on July 1, 1776. On that day, 12 out of the 13 colonies agreed to get independence from England.
  • Adoption of Articles of Confederation

    The battle of Yorktown was a memorial event in American history when the British army surrendered to the American army.
  • Shays' Rebellion

    On this day, a group of colonists that opposed the Articles of Confederation attacked the Springfield Arsenal. This group was led by Daniel Shays, as the name suggests. This was the turning point that led to our current form of government.
  • Ratification of the U.S. Constitution

    The ratification of the Constitution was a memorial day because it meant that we now had a firm and steady foundation to our government. This is when the Constitution became valid.
  • Ratification of the Bill of Rights

    This event in American history was a very special day because it gave the federlists and the anti-federalists what they want from the Constitution so that they could keep it.
  • Cotton Gin Patent is Issued

    The moment the cotton gin was patented paved the way to Thomas Jefferson's dream of a country of independent farmers. It also increased the demand for slaves in the south.
  • Beginning of Lewis and Clark Expedition

    Lewis and Clark set out to explore the Louisiana Purchase. They also wanted to go and explore what was beyond that, all the way to the Pacific Ocean.
  • End of Lewis and Clark Expedition

    Lewis and Clark found many new species of animals, as well as new Native American tribes, but never found a passage through America by river.
  • First mill built in Lowell, MA

    Lowell, Massachusetts started the Industrial Revolution in America, starting out with a simple mill.
  • Start of Trail of Tears

    This happened when Andrew Jackson started the Indian Removal Act. The Cherokee had started to assimilate to American culture, but that didn't make any difference, for they were still considered savages and sent west.
  • End of the trail of tears

    All Indians are moved west so that Americans can prosper into their stolen territory.
  • Gold Discovered at Sutter's Mill

    When gold was discovered here, it started the California gold rush, making what California is what it is today.
  • Signing of Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    The end of the Mexican-American war ended with this treaty, resulting in America getting 525,000 square miles of land.
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    This battle was important to our country because it started the American Civil War, making our country into a warzone. This began in Charleston, South Carolina.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    This battle was considered a very important time in the civil war because the Confederates defeated the Union States there and moved into Pennsylvania, claiming more ground.
  • Battle of Little Bighorn

    This event was when an armed regiment of the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapho tribes fought against the cavalry regiment of the U.S. army.
  • Beginning of Great Depression

    This was a tragic time in American history because at that time everybody kept their money in one bank account. Then the stock market crashed and everyone lost their money, leaving America very poor.
  • End of the Great Depression

    At the start of WWII did the Great Depression finally end. everyone got their money back and everything was back to normal, except for WWII.
  • Apollo 11 Moon Landing

    At this time the United States and the Soviet Union were in a space race to get to the moon. Unfortunately for Russia, he U.S. won the race to get to the moon when Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the lunar surface.

  • 9/11

    This was the time when two suicide bomber airplanes crashed into each of the twin towers in New York. A plane also crashed into the Pentagon. Another plane was supposed to crash into the White House, but was taken down in western PA.

    The first inauguration of Obama was a critical event in our country because he brought our health care debt to over a trillion dollars right after.
