Tim agrees to deliver letters for Mr. Heron despite what Father says (which was that he thought it was for war reasons). He did not want Tim to be a part of war. But Tim still wanted to deliver the letters thinking that it will be like an adventure Sam is taking. -
The Cowboys Try To Steal Cattle
On the way to Verplanks Point, Tim and Father encounter Cowboys who wanted to steal their cattle so that they could sell it themselves. And win all the money to themselves. -

Father is kidnapped by Cowboys. Tim, scared to death, goes home with the goods on his own, and as soon as he reaches home he feels grown up knowing that he has changed. -
Sam is Accused of Stealing Cattle
Sam is visiting Tim at the tavern. Sam and Tim catch two men trying to steal and butcher their cattle and they run after them.The two men didn't want to be caught for stealing cattle because their leader would execute them for it so they blamed it all on Sam instead. -
