The First Motocross des Nations
History of Motocross des Nation Hague, Netherlands was home to the first Motocross des Nations. The first race was comprised of only three countries, Netherlands, Great Britain, and Belgium. Great Britain won that race and 5 of the next 7 races that followed in the years spanning from 1948-1954. -

The racing continued. France, Sweden and Luxembourg joined the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and the Motocross des Nations/ -
A Trophy Hets a Name
The MXoN trophy is named after the vice president of the FIM, Peter Chamberlain, after his death in 1954. -
Sweden Steals a Win
Sweden earns a win against the dominant British riders. They trade off wins with the British 3 more times between 1956 and 1962. -
Make Room for the 250s
The series, previously dominated by 500cc machines, adds the 250cc bikes to the starting gate. Teams were required to race both bikes to compete. This paved the way for the present day race format. -
Great Britain Reigns
Great Britain goes on a 5 year win streak from 1963-1967 -
Russia Wins
Russia wins their first race. Their only other win came 10 years later in 1978 -
Belgium Dethrones Great Britain
Belgium racks up 7 wins between 1969 and 1980. They take over as the dominant team in the MXoN -

125cc Bikes Join the Race
The FIM includes 125cc bikes in the race. -
United States Break Thruogh
After years of ridicule and bad luck, the United States arrive in Belgium with America's first MXoN winning team. Chuck Sun, Danny LaPorte, Johnny O’Mara and Donnie Hanson opened the worlds' eyes by winning the impossible. -

The American silence nay-sayers by backing up their 1981 win with a win streak spanning 13 years. -
New Format
Format QuoteIn 1985 a new format combining all three classes in a single competition, the Motocross des Nations, was introduced by the FIM, gathering all three classes (125cc, 250cc and 500cc) with one rider in each class and three races per event: 125/500, 125/250, 250/500. -
The Dream Team
Rick Johnson, Johnny O'Mara, and David Baily make up the American "Dream Team". The team went on to win the top 2 positions in all three motos that year. -
The Americans Fall
Great Britain team of Rob Herring, Paul Malin and Kurt Nicoll defeat the Americans. -
Belgium Back On Top
The Belgium team of Stefan Everts, Joel Smets and Marnicq Bervoets add the the woes of the American team. They would win two more racws (1997 and 1998). -
Introducing, Ricky Carmichael
The United States win and the world is introduced to the future GOAT (Greatest of all Time), Rick Carmichael. -
America Bows Out
The War on Terrorism causes the US to pull out of the 2001 and 2002 races. -
Belgium Wins
The Belgium team, led by Stefan Everts, steals two races O(2003-2004) away from the Americans. -
American Domination Continues
Led by Ricky Carmichael and Kevin Windham, the American team begins a new win streak that stands to this day. -
Budds Creek, Maryland
In 2007 the MXoN is back on US soil. Ryan Villopoto dominates both his motos, including holeshoting both motos aboard his 250 Kawasaki. Meanwhile, the world bids farewell to the retiring legend, Ricky Carmichael. -
Back in the USA
Colorado native, Andrew Short has the once-in-a-lifetime chance to race the MXoN in front of his hometown fans in Lakewood, Colorado. The US team raced for another win. -
