This was only possible because instead of using vacuum tubes it used transistors wich wre invented in 1947. People who would use this are people that need something with them on the go.

    The first walkman came out in 1979, it was the at the time the first portable music player in the world other than the transistor radio. It was created by the company Sony.the first personal stereo tape deck that used a cassete that was pocket sized. Also unlike the Transistor radio it featured a headphone jack instead of a speaker to keep your music private. Later on in time sony added AM and FM transmitors as well. Anyone who enjoyed music would have liked to have one of these.
