After religious prosecution, Joseph Smith was killed, when an angry mob attacked his house. He tried to defend himself, but when all hopes were gone he jumped out of his window. On his way down, he was shot several times, his final words were "Oh my God," then he hit the floor.

The Utes, angry over the disruption of the trade as well as white settelment on their territory, reacted violently. They raided many Mormon villages. In responce the Utah militia attack the Utes.
